I tried using mplayer and it shows intermittent red colors while it's playing

Description

I used mplayer from the opensuse 11.1 and it shows intermittent red colors.
So then I tried downloading the source and I had a problem compiling it.
But then I got source from git and was able to compile it.
But it still shows problems when I play a video with intermittent red blotches appearing during playback.

It doesn't matter what video I play it shows red colors.

When I removed vlc the problem went away.
