*Overview
If file format is mp4 and movie aspect is 1.78:1, mplayer r3519 (at least) to r30547 detects that aspect is 2.12:1. r30325 detects properly at least. mkv, avi or wmv seem to be shown properly.

It seems to be encoder's issue. Because the older version of mplayer seemed to detect the aspect properly, I had thought this is player side issue.
I'll close this report.

This is coming from ffmpeg - reproducing it with ffmpeg and reporting it on their bug tracker is likely to give results faster.
