Viewing JPEG images with:
mplayer mf://image.jpg
gives an incorrect gamma/contrast value that is noticeably different from the original source image. The problem is easiest to see with images showing a light texture which will get washed out when viewed with mplayer. This issue seems to be limited to the JPEG format as converting the JPEG image to PNG, TGA, RGB or SGI and then viewing it with mf:// does not have this problem.
The problem happens with all video output drivers I tried.
The attached image shows on the left side the original JPEG picture and on the right side how it is reproduced by mplayer.
