Description
When I switch Mplayer to full-screen mode, it crashes. I use it with SMplayer GUI which adds a lot of command line arguments. Just running Mplayer standalone without those parameters it switches to full-screen as expected.
I have dual monitor setup otherwise.

There is some indication that you are not using MPlayer from svn.mplayerhq.hu...
Please confirm that latest, unpatched MPlayer svn also crashes, then remove options to find out which one is responsible for your problem.

I can confirm that the issue exists in the latest mplayer (SVN Revision: 33030). (See in attached core dump file.)
The playback was successfully stared without any of the following command line options:
-sub-fuzziness 1
-stop-xscreensaver
-ass
