To the best of my knowledge these (quite common) issues with vob files should be fixed in the latest version.

  • Ticket #2169 – Description

    initial v2
    11I use Mplayer SVN-r36498-snapshot-4.8.2 ( archlinux 64 bits package "mplayer 36498-4" )
    2
32and I notice that on some case mplayer is unable to extract audio tracks from vob files,
    4
53for example I have "terminator 2" DVD, I try to rip this DVD with mplayer :
    6
    74mplayer -dumpstream dvd://4 -dumpfile video.vob
    8
95I get a vob file with full movie and 3 track audio :
    10
116audio stream: 0 format: ac3 (stereo) language: fr aid: 128.
    127audio stream: 1 format: ac3 (5.1) language: fr aid: 129.
    138audio stream: 2 format: ac3 (5.1) language: en aid: 130.
    149subtitle ( sid ): 0 language: fr
    15
1610but when I try to extract audio track with mplayer it fails with this message :
    17
    1811Playing video.vob.
    1912libavformat version 55.19.104 (internal)

    2215dump: 0 bytes written to 'en.ac3'.
    2316Core dumped ;)
    24
2517the commande line for extracting the third audio track was :
    26
    27  mplayer video.vob -aid 130 -dumpaudio -dumpfile en.ac3
    28
     18 mplayer video.vob -aid 130 -dumpaudio -dumpfile en.ac3
2919it fails also if I try to extract the others 2 audio tracks,
    30
3120If I use ffmpeg I don't have problem for extracting tracks from this vob file :
    32
    33 ffmpeg -i video.vob -map 0:3 en.ac3
    34
     21ffmpeg -i video.vob -map 0:3 en.ac3
3522so I think there is a bug with mplayer for extracting audio track from vob files, sometimes it works but with some particular DVD it fails ( Terminator 2, Star Wars episode 2 )
