mplayer-plugin doesn't work with Opera or Firefox on FreeBSD

My configuration: PC-BSD/FreeBSD, Firefox 2.0.0.6, Opera-FreeBSD 9.23, KDE 3.5.x
I installed MPlayer with mplayer-plugin and set up Opera and Firefox to use it.
I've been playing around with mplayer-plugin for a bit now. I have gotten it working with FF, but it is highly unstable. It crashes the entire browser almost every time it runs, also disables the mouse somehow. In Opera it doesn't even semi work, just crashes the browser immediately.

also try the media player connectivity firefox extension, it is very easy to use. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/446
