Description
Mplayer 1.0rc2 (GUI version, dowloaded from mplayerhq.hu) always crashes immediately after trying to start playing a file. It dies with signal 4 (Illegal instruction) in module init_audio_codec. This happens on a Windows XP SP2 running as a QEMU/KVM virtualized guest (with a single virtual processor) in a Linux x86_64 host (CentOS 5.1). A warning appears saying that it may be a bug in MPlayer's new runtime CPU-detection code. The real CPU here is an Intel Core2 Duo E6400.

No, sorry, I don't have a compilation environment here. In fact I had never used MPlayer at all before this attempt. I just happened to try SUPER Converter and MediaCoder, and both failed in the same way so I ended up figuring out MPlayer was to blame and thus I downloaded and tried MPlayer to confirm it.
In case it's any use, dxdiag says the processor is "QEMU Virtual CPU version 0.9.1".
can you try compiling it inside of qemu?
