#2146 closed defect (needs_more_info)

MPlayer always crashes when quitting (and sometimes after playing a movie)

Reported by: zbigniew2011@… Owned by: reimar
Priority: normal Component: core
Version: HEAD Severity: major
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Reproduced by developer: no Analyzed by developer: no

Description (last modified by reimar)

I tested "regular" version 1.1.1 - it kept crashing when closing program. Since you require to test SVN version - today built exactly using the newest sources, but it still crashes.

Maybe it's somehow related to the fact, that my system is 64-bit (I didn't install any compat32-libraries; don't want them)? On 32-bit no such problems having similar (but not exactly the same) setup.

Kernel 3.9.0, gcc version 4.7.1, glibc 2.15

MPlayer's error messages during crash

Today I noticed, that there's no such problem, when I switch "audio output" from ALSA to JACK. And one more thing: even in case of ALSA, MPlayer won't crash, if I don't play any file (just run MPlayer and immediately quit).

Sorry for the delay.
Have you tested "mplayer" instead of the GUI "gmplayer"?
Because if it is GUI specific our maintainer for that part should probably look at it.
Otherwise running it with "valgrind" prepended to the command (after installing the tool) will give much more useful information.
Unfortunately I personally have never seen this issue, even on the systems where I use ALSA.

"Delay"? 8 months passed. Sorry, but meanwhile I upgraded my Linux installation to Slackware 14.1, fortunately there's no such problem - and I simply don't have my old installation anymore, therefore I can't help you with this one.

AFAICT the problem disappeared for the reporter.

But as the cause was never analyzed I am closing the ticket with "needs more info".
