Description

Example DVD: Kill Bill Volume 2

On Windows in InterVideo WinDVD, with default settings (no options changed =
subtitles and audio set to English), I get (generally) no subtitles (they aren't
required as long as there's English audio), but each time someone speaks in a
non-English language (eg when the martial arts master with the long white beard
speaks in scene 8), English subtitles are displayed (great).

In MPlayer this doesn't work.

The steps:

  1. insert Kill Bill Volume 2; command "gmplayer"
  2. rightclick on movie screen -> DVD -> Open disc
  3. the movie is played: English audio, no subtitles (so far so good)
  4. As soon as the martial arts master with the long white beard speaks I need English subtitles (which I get in WinDVD). So I rightclicked on the movie screen and clicked on DVD -> subtitle languages -> English

  • MPlayer skips to the beginning of scene 8 (shouldn't happen)
  • the window gets resized
  • a window pops up "Coudn't find matching filter/ao format!"
  • a horrible and very loud sound starts and doesn't stop (I had the sound on the HiFi, it shocked me, it would be great if stuff like this would never happen, even when there's a problem)
  • English subtitles are displayed for *all* spoken text. I want them only for non-English spoken text (as is default in WinDVD) because I'd like to see the whole movie screen whenever possible, and get subtitles only when necessary. (I don't need subtitles for English text)
