give mplayer the ability to display multiple subtitles at once
e.g. a foriegn movie with foriegn commentary subtitles :)
or just a movie with two diff subs so you and someone else can understand the
same movie

I would also really like this feature.
In the mean time, I heard that a script exists to merge two SRT files into a single ASS subtitle file. I've searched, but the links are broken. Anyone know where this file can be found?

I think kaouete may be referring to something different. To see positioned subtitles for things like signs on screen, you can run mplayer with "-ass" and "-embeddedfonts", which will enable the subs to display at the position that is specified in the file.

Hello,
What I was referring to is not the ability to display positioned subtitles, but it was just an example of case where one want to show two subtitle tracks at the same time.
Anyway, I don't think that since I posted a comment here I had a real need for this…

I second that request.
There is more and more dvd or mkv that proposes subtitles for talks and subtitles for signs on screen.
