soft volume is linear scale, should be logarithmic

this means that the volume control is very imprecise. to turn down from 100% you need to go down to 10%-20% to hear a sound that seems half as loud. the last step from maybe 5% to 0% is quite abrupt. with a logarithmic (base 2) scale each step would seem the same size.
