I was using the external faad2-lib, when switvhing to the internal faad2-lib the
problem vanished.

Using recent SVN build patched for libva/vaapi (r31027); same problem occurs with some MKV files' audio. I made an UbuntuForums post here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1469500 detailing my problem.

If I need to submit more information before anyone can know what's wrong; just ask me what I should provide. :)

as those apple trailers work fine for everyone else. and adam doesnt give any samples at all. i'd say its either your mplayer setup (wrong ao? try -ao oss or -ao alsa) or your soundcard+drivers (try mplayer -af resample=44100 ).
